Delia Derbyshire Day 2015 ‘The Waking Sleep’
For Delia Derbyshire Day, inspired by the legendary electronic musician Delia Derbyshire, AoR composed an electronic and acoustic piece to be played as a live accompaniment to a dream sequence collage of films by Di Mainstone
The resulting work entitled The Waking Sleep influenced by the archive of soundscapes recorded by Delia and the philosophy of Gurdjieff, found AoR exploring a new palette of sounds including waterphone, cube weevil, found percussion and bass clarinet; and making particular use of multiphonics and circular breathing.
Soundpit Southbank Centre
AoR were delighted to collaborate with artist Di Mainstone on the sound palette, design for Soundpit, as part of Di’s Artist in Residence for Manchester’s European City of Science
AoR were specially commissioned to design and create a sound palette for the Soundpit, a multisensory installation. Sound, visuals and motion capture technology were brought together by creative technologist Paul Miller in collaboration with game designers Shi and Kriss Blank.
Wonderlooper
AoR worked alongside Di Mainstone on the music and sound design for her interactive installation Wonderlooper.
AoR provided singing and drumming workshops, connecting and creating with local community groups who would inform the work.
The installation, a series of large scale, audio-visual kaleidoscopes shaped like seaside telescopes, marked the opening of Northern Spire Bridge in Sunderland.
Landlines – Tracks, Traces and Trails ‘Natural Rites’
AoR were commissioned by Landlines to respond sonically to themes around climate and migration. The project aimed to foster multisensory appreciation of the natural world and to encourage meaningful connection with nature and the environment.
AoR produced ‘Natural Rites’ a data encoded triptych focusing on endangered UK animal species and polyphonic melodies, transcribed for instruments from relevant, available data.
